(Patria) - Canada intends to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations in September, Prime Minister Mark Carney said, Reuters reported.
Carney told reporters that the planned move is based on the Palestinian Authority's commitment to reforms, including commitments to fundamental governance reform and holding general elections in 2026 in which Hamas can have no role.
This announcement follows similar announcements from France and the United Kingdom.
Official Paris announced recognition in September, and London said it would do the same if Israel continues its current policy toward the Gaza Strip, where famine threatens.
