(Patria) - US Vice President Kamala Harris has officially secured the required number of delegate votes to become the Democratic presidential nominee and the first Black woman at the top of a party ticket.
This was announced yesterday by the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, who stated that Kamala Harris's nomination was achieved through virtual voting.
"Kamala Harris is now assured of becoming the Democratic nominee in the November presidential election, having secured the support of more than half of the delegates in an online vote," the party stated.
The US Vice President said she was "honored" to have crossed this threshold before the close of voting on Monday.
Harris will formally accept the presidential nomination at the Democratic convention scheduled for mid-August in Chicago.
