KALESIJA Professor must go to prison for bribe for positive grades

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Municipal Court in Kalesija, based on the indictment of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton, has issued a guilty first-instance and non-final verdict for a professor at the Mixed Secondary School in Kalesija, Seid Kuralić (62), for the prolonged criminal offense of receiving a gift or other form of benefit, and sentenced him to 18 months in prison.

Furthermore, Kuralić has been issued a security measure prohibiting him from holding a position, profession, or duty for a period of 3 years from the date the verdict becomes final, which relates to the prohibition of holding the position of professor at the Mixed Secondary School in Kalesija, as well as in all other primary and secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The court acquitted Kuralić of the charges for two actions from the indictment, and the Prosecutor's Office will appeal the verdict in this part and regarding the imposed criminal sanction to the Cantonal Court in Tuzla.

We remind you that Kuralić is accused of, while working as a professor at the aforementioned school, in one instance in June 2008, and in several other instances from 2015 to 2017, demanding and receiving amounts from 100 to 200 KM from the parents of students to whom he taught a group of mechanical subjects, or from parents' intermediaries, in order to favor students who had a likely failing final grade in those subjects and secure them a positive final grade at the end of the school year.

The indictment states that he received money in several instances, thereby acquiring an unlawful property benefit of 1,200 KM. The guilty part of the non-final verdict states the amount of acquired benefit to be around 800 KM, which will be confiscated from the accused.
