How the UK sees a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

(Patria) - The United Kingdom has informed several countries of its five-point plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Financial Times reported.

According to the newspaper, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron discussed this with senior officials from Israel and the Palestinian National Authority during his tour of the Middle East this week.

The plan includes an immediate announcement of a humanitarian ceasefire, the establishment of a Palestinian technocratic government to administer the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the release of all hostages held by Hamas militants, guarantees from Arab countries that Hamas will permanently cease attacks on Israeli territory, and that members of its military leadership will leave the Gaza Strip.

In addition, it proposes defining a "clear political horizon" for the formation of a Palestinian state, within the framework of the two-state solution for two peoples.

- We are trying to strengthen the idea that, as soon as a humanitarian ceasefire is declared, it is necessary to make maximum efforts to turn it into a permanent one and to focus on what is realistic, achievable and can make the ceasefire stable - an unnamed British official told the Financial Times.
