It is almost a year since Milomir Savčić, indicted for genocide in BiH, fled from Bosnia and Herzegovina and since the Court of BiH issued a warrant (10 August 2021).
The judicial and police institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina have no adequate answers nor information about the missing former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), Milomir Savčić, whose escape, like that of most unavailable persons, according to security experts, would not have been possible without the support of government structures and security services!
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH is silent; in response to Patria's inquiries about what is happening with the investigation into Savčić's escape, they simply do not reply, and it is assumed that, even if a response arrives, it will be the usual – the investigation is ongoing!?
We remind that the former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska and president of the RS Veterans' Organization, Milomir Savčić, indicted for genocide in Srebrenica, became "unavailable" to the Judicial Police of BiH after being remanded in custody just a few hours after the hearing ended.
The decision on custody was made, according to the court's explanation, "due to fears that he would destroy, hide, alter, or falsify evidence or traces important for the criminal proceedings against him, and due to special circumstances indicating that he would obstruct the criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses, accomplices, or concealers, and not due to the risk of flight."
But he fled anyway.
The escape required logistical support, and he certainly had it, with the top echelons of Republika Srpska and Serbia allegedly involved.
Earlier, his passport from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia, as well as his ID card, had been confiscated under imposed restrictive measures, and he was banned from leaving his place of residence and from traveling. Therefore, crossing the border required a wider chain of accomplices.
All this is insufficient for the acting Chief Prosecutor of BiH, Milanko Kajganić, to address this issue more seriously. He is ‘burdened’ with other tasks, primarily the prosecution of members of the Army of the Republic of BiH and the police, as in the ‘Dobrovoljačka’ case, as well as his own struggle in the race for Chief Prosecutor of BiH.
And while Savčić's escape slowly fades into the oblivion of a lethargic public and indolent authorities, we have another case where Serbia again appears as a warm haven for those who ordered, killed, slaughtered, raped... and on top of all that, in May this year, Savčić gave an interview on the public service (RTRS).
In the show "Svjedočenja" (Testimonies), on the occasion of 30 years of Republika Srpska, he spoke on RTRS as if he were the freest man in the world, while simultaneously being unavailable to the BiH judiciary.
Savčić enjoys freedom in Serbia, while members of the Army of the Republic of BiH are dragged through the courts for years, proving that they defended the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the only legal army at that time.
How is it possible that no one reacts to this situation, not even the media regulatory bodies, nor the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV)!?
The latest in a series of scandals in the form of the escape of Milomir Savčić, an indictee for participation in genocide, is just a drop in the bucket. Moving forward like this is no longer possible, nor backward, because the water is too deep.
