(Patria) - European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas spoke by phone on Sunday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, an EU official confirmed. Kallas also held separate talks with her counterparts from Turkey, Qatar, and South Korea on the war in the Middle East, attacks on energy infrastructure, and the urgent need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reports.
"These talks are part of the EU's ongoing efforts to find diplomatic solutions," the official said.
He warned that "new threats of attacks on critical civilian infrastructure threaten to endanger millions of people across the Middle East and beyond."
Kallas last spoke with Araqchi on Wednesday. At that time, according to the same official, she emphasized that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is a priority for Europe.
