When will BiH get the green light for exporting meat and milk to the EU

For Bosnia and Herzegovina to be able to export food of animal origin to European Union countries, BiH must have an infallible system that will detect even the smallest residues of drugs in milk, meat, meat products..., writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Experts call this the National Residue Monitoring Program. This requires dozens of trained veterinary inspectors and modern laboratories in at least several major cities in the country.

It is precisely because this program in BiH has never been fully implemented that our country has a ban on exporting food of animal origin to the EU. In fact, part of the program has been implemented, so BiH has been approved to export fish and honey to the EU, of which we do not have enough even for our own needs.

At the same time, hundreds of millions of KM worth of goods of animal origin enter BiH annually from neighboring and other countries, writes Patria.

On this occasion, a conference will be held in Sarajevo on Tuesday, where the results of the work so far in the field of establishing a residue monitoring system in food of animal origin in BiH will be presented.

Representatives of the US, Czech and Swedish Embassies in BiH, together with the Director of the Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ljubomir Kalaba, will present the results of the implementation of a pilot project for the construction of veterinary laboratories and inspections in BiH at the Hotel Bristol in Sarajevo.

The project was financed by the Government of the United States of America, through the Emerging Donors Challenge Fund, and the Czech Development Agency (CzDA), and was implemented through the FARMA program, jointly financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Swedish Embassy in BiH, reports NAP.
