Buka, whistles and banging on the benches. Opposition politicians in Republika Srpska decided to turn the beginning of the session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska yesterday into a circus. A serious circus of political stillbirths.
Although it is not common sense, it seems that playing frustrating notes on the benches is one of the few ways for the opposition to confront the rulers in Republika Srpska. They banged on the benches, the Minister of Internal Affairs slapped them. Parliamentarism in Republika Srpska has hit rock bottom.
After eight hours of watching a political reality show, I still couldn't figure out why they were attacking each other.
The topic of the session was the Reform Program, which was sent to Brussels just before the session began. In recent years, the National Assembly of RS, under the control of Milorad Dodik, has often convened sessions for political clowns to rehearse their acts, and for Dodik to show his power. This time, things went a little differently.
Both the opposition and the authorities in Republika Srpska are fighting against Bosnia and Herzegovina's entry into NATO. In fact, they are fighting against everything that Bosnia and Herzegovina is or should be. Transfer of competencies, state laws, and institutions. For years, everyone in RS has been fighting for the same goal, yet they constantly argue about it.
We have long known what Milorad Dodik thinks about BiH and what he thinks of it. Ready for anything, even to be exiled from the Western world. A political crawler on Russian money. As such, Dodik has already been accepted as a retrograde phenomenon that is leading the country down a bad path. And that has become a reality. We know him, he annoys us, but we don't trust him. Foreigners don't trust him either. That's why they don't negotiate with Dodik anymore. When necessary, they twist his arm and get what they want.
The opposition in Republika Srpska also has a clear list of wishes. It is the same list as Dodik's. Anti-state and anti-NATO policy. These are the opposition members who have been accepted in Sarajevo as "Serb politicians ready to move BiH forward". And members of that same opposition still hold the Hague convict Radovan Karadžić as a holy figure, just like other war criminals. For them, they are "honorable" creators of Republika Srpska. It should not be forgotten that opposition members in RS are known for their statements that they will "happily support the reserve force of the MUP of RS". They are not reluctant to boast on Facebook that they are "proud" followers of the Chetnik leader Draža Mihailović.
The competition to harm Bosnia and Herzegovina the most has become a pattern of behavior for SDS and PDP on one side, and SNSD with its partners on the other.
That is why yesterday's NSRS session lasted eight hours. Lacking the courage to abandon the matrices of Karadžić, Koljević, and the like, SDS and PDP can only create a circus.
Therefore, the opposition in Republika Srpska, led by SDS and PDP, will never be a relevant and reliable partner. Neither for domestic nor for foreign actors. Because, for anyone even remotely literate, who can SDS and PDP be a coalition partner to? I am not including SDA here, they are partners even with the devil for power.
And when the issues are not about NATO and the transfer of competencies, the opposition in RS commits suicide with bad moves. The best example is the case of the murdered David Dragičević. The opposition had the opportunity to bring down Milorad Dodik's regime to its knees.
And they tied their own knees. They got stuck in place and remained on the sidelines of the political scene, both at the entity and state levels. David's father told them that yesterday, saying that the opposition deserved to be slapped by MUP officer Dragan Lukač.
And the slap came because of the NATO flag. Draško Stanivuković, with whom people in Sarajevo take pictures in ecstasy and give him support, does not want to join NATO. That is why he ironically and provocatively carried the NATO flag around the NSRS and behaved immaturely towards a parliament. Whatever that parliament may be. In the end, he received a slap from Minister Lukač, who also does not want to join NATO, because he says, "while he was at war with his soldiers, NATO planes were flying overhead, and he was waiting every moment for bombs to be dropped on his head".
Neither Draško nor Dragan want to join NATO. And yet they are arguing. Dodik also does not want to join NATO, and he breaks microphones in the assembly to which he swears allegiance.
And no one, or at least 95 percent of those who spent eight hours correcting false statements on Tuesday, do not want to join NATO.
But their arguments should not deceive any pro-Bosnian or pro-Bosnia and Herzegovina political circles. In Republika Srpska, they are arguing about who will better, stronger, and more effectively stop BiH's path to NATO, but also who will cripple the state more.
Because they were created on the matrix represented by Draža's songs and flags. Apparently, they can neither go beyond that matrix nor do they want to. Therefore, they should not be touched; let them slap each other constitutionally and in accordance with the letter of Dayton.
Because who dares to beat opposition Serbs, except the Serbian police. A villain once said that long ago, and these people in the NSRS still follow him today.
