Zelensky's office denies he is preparing to run for a second term

(Patria) - The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has denied claims by the British Economist that Zelensky is preparing to run for a second term in the July elections.

The office also denied that Zelensky held a meeting about the July elections, where he allegedly, according to the Economist, instructed his team to organize the elections.

A source from the Ukrainian government said that the main issue now is achieving peace, and that it is completely untrue that preparations for the elections are already underway, Unian reported.

A source from the team of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that there is currently practically no chance of ending the war and holding elections.

The head of the Ukrainian Central Election Commission, Oleg Didenko, said that, according to current legislation, the Verkhovna Rada must make a decision on scheduling presidential elections within one month after the end of martial law.

The Economist, citing sources from the Ukrainian government, published that presidential elections in Ukraine could be held as early as this summer, and that Zelensky intends to run for a second term.

According to unnamed sources, Zelensky convened a meeting last week to instruct his team to organize the vote after a complete ceasefire, which Americans believe could be implemented by the end of April.

The newspaper lists Easter, April 20, as a likely date for the ceasefire. The Economist notes that a vote on extending martial law, which expires on May 8, is scheduled for May 5 in parliament.
