Jovanović: On January 9, Dodik chose to be Karadžić, and the Americans accepted it

Čedomir Jovanović, leader of the LDP and MP in the National Assembly of Serbia, spoke on tonight's CD of Face TV about the upcoming presidential elections in his country, writes Patria.

Jovanović explained that Tomislav Nikolić represents the focal point of Serbian nationalism, and as such, he is an obstacle for Aleksandar Vučić and the pro-European policy he pursues.

He emphasized that Nikolić cannot be expected to be effective in resolving the Kosovo issue, nor to be different from how he was on January 9, when he fraternized with Dodik in Banja Luka.

- Dodik is under sanctions, and Nikolić is left without a second term; that is the epilogue of their fraternization. We cannot expect Nikolić to understand a European Serbia. Although Vučić cares about maintaining relations with RS and Dodik, there are noticeable differences between what Vučić wants to do and what Dodik has done now.  

Serbs have two leaders – Vučić and Dodik. Dodik is under US sanctions, and no one has returned happy from that path. Dodik is an example of the price of the path Nikolić is taking. Vučić, as the other leader of the Serbs, must think about his own perspective.

In the process of clarifying these relations, there will be a reflection on the relations within and with RS. Vučić will try to change RS to such an extent that the crisis with the referendum never happens again. Vučić did not support the referendum; Dodik did it himself. We now have the departure of a political generation on the political scene, and this will leave its consequences on the political situation in the region, said Jovanović.

Speaking about Nikolić's offer to Vučić, who requested the position of SNS president and prime minister in exchange for not running in the elections, Jovanović said:

- This is the 21st century. Serbia has been through a lot, but this time there is no room for a flea market. I don't remember accounts being settled in such a way, as Nikolić did, in any country in the world. Vučić has nothing to give Nikolić. He cannot give him the position of prime minister; Vučić himself came to it by the will of the people.  

Nikolić is losing his mind to such an extent that he is openly trading. This is an insult to Serbia!

Nikolić is the anchor of Serbian nationalism, and the Serbian Orthodox Church moved more in his orbit than in Vučić's. With Nikolić's departure, the entire architecture of our society is changing.

When it comes to the relationship between Vučić and Dodik, I am sure that Vučić will not take radical steps that could jeopardize his reputation. Vučić's political path is such that there is no place for Dodik on it. On January 9, Dodik nominated himself for Karadžić, and the Americans accepted it. I don't think this will happen too quickly or too obviously, but Vučić will define his relationship with Dodik, just as he did with Nikolić.
