Cause and circumstances of the fire in Rajlovac barracks still unknown

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – Even ten days after the fire broke out in the Rajlovac barracks of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the cause and circumstances of how the fire, which was extinguished by six firefighting teams of the Sarajevo Professional Fire Brigade, occurred are still unknown, confirmed for Patria by the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

In the afternoon hours of September 17, a fire broke out in the Workshop of the main logistics base at the Rajlovac barracks location, building number 15, and fortunately there were no injured persons. It is also unknown whether any members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina were in the building at the time of the fire. 

By order of the Minister of Defense Marina Pendeš, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately formed a Team for continuous monitoring of the situation on the ground and determining the causes and circumstances under which the fire occurred.

„A task was issued to the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina to establish all facts, circumstances, possible omissions in the application of regulations, and possible responsibility of individuals and elements of the system,“ was announced by the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 17, when the fire in the Rajlovac barracks broke out. 

The further process of investigative actions is under the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton. Spokesperson of the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, Azra Bavčić, told Patria that a final prosecutorial decision is expected.
