Another 40,000 pieces of weapons illegally in BiH: Destruction of collected items through campaigns in Banja Luka

BANJA LUKA, (Patria) - Law enforcement agencies working with the Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Southeast and Eastern Europe (SEESAC) have collected 1,135 pieces of weapons and 1,276 components through a series of operations across Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past ten months, which will be destroyed today in Banja Luka.

This is part of an ongoing European Union-funded program against cross-border, major, and organized crime, which focuses on combating the illegal production and proliferation of weapons and their components.

A new roadmap has been launched, aimed at addressing the illegal possession and trade of small arms and light weapons (SALW) and related ammunition in the Western Balkans.

Official statistics for BiH suggest that there are about 16,000 tons of weapons and approximately 40,000 pieces of weapons that are still illegally in the public domain.

These weapons pose a significant danger to the country's security and must be eradicated, the EU Delegation to BiH announced.
