(Patria) - A Jordanian official told Reuters that Arabs will "only support what Palestinians agree on and decide" after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel wants to hand over Gaza to Arab forces that will govern it.
"Security in Gaza must be ensured through legitimate Palestinian institutions," the source said.
Netanyahu did not elaborate on the governance method or which Arab countries might be involved.
The Israeli leader made the comments to Fox News shortly before he was scheduled to meet with a small group of senior ministers to discuss plans for the military to take control of a larger territory in Gaza.
"Arabs will not agree to Netanyahu's policies, nor will they clean up his mess," the Jordanian official said in the first reaction from the main Arab neighbor to Netanyahu's comments.
