(Patria) - The Jordanian army's military field hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza was severely damaged on Wednesday by Israeli shelling near the building, and the army said it holds Israel "fully responsible for a flagrant violation of international law," Reuters reported.
A member of the hospital staff was injured and will be returned to Jordan for treatment, while a patient was hit by shrapnel, the army statement said.
"The hospital suffered extensive damage... The government will take all necessary measures as a result of the aggression," the statement said, without specifying.
The hospital is one of two run by the Jordanian armed forces in Gaza, which is suffering from an acute shortage of medical aid amid the war between Israel and Hamas. Jordan, which is among the Arab neighbors pushing Israel to allow more aid, is the only country airdropping aid into Gaza, channeling it through these two medical facilities.
Jordan managed to persuade Israel to allow the World Food Programme (WFP) to send deliveries to Gaza via another land route starting from Jordan, which helped ease pressure on the main Rafah border crossing, whose capacity is limited.
