(Patria) - The Council of the European Union today adopted a series of decisions extending the current mandates of the following three EU Special Representatives by one year, until 31 August 2024:
- Johann Sattler has been the EU Special Representative (EUSR) for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) since 1 September 2019. His mandate is to ensure steady progress in the stabilisation and association process for a stable, sustainable, peaceful, multi-ethnic and united Bosnia and Herzegovina that cooperates peacefully with its neighbours and that makes unstoppable progress on its path to membership in the Union. He also supports the implementation of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The High Representative proposes EU Special Representatives to promote the EU's policies and interests in specific regions and countries and an active political presence of the EU in these areas.
Currently, the work of the Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, is supported by ten Special Representatives. Among them are the three Special Representatives mentioned, as well as the EU Special Representatives for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues, and for the Sahel, the Horn of Africa, the Gulf region, Central Asia, the Middle East Peace Process, and for Human Rights.
