Joe Biden nominated Douglas Jones as the new US Ambassador to BiH

(Patria) - US President Joe Biden announced his nominee for the new ambassador to BiH, Voice of America reported.

He is Douglas Jones, according to his official biography, a diplomat with extensive experience around the world, and in missions with NATO, in Croatia and Montenegro, he previously had an engagement in Sarajevo.

"Douglas D. Jones assumed his responsibilities as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs in September 2021.

He oversees European security, including NATO, the OSCE, and conventional arms control, Northern Europe, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as Arctic Security.

Jones most recently served as Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to NATO from August 2018 to September 2021.

He held two prior assignments as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassies in Croatia and Montenegro.

His previous domestic assignments include Director of the Office of Peacekeeping, Sanctions, and Counterterrorism in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs at the State Department, Director for NATO and Western Europe at the National Security Council, and as a member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations in New York.

Overseas, he also served as the Senior Civilian Representative in the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, and at the U.S. Embassies in Sarajevo, Dublin, and Tel Aviv.

Jones holds a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College and a master’s degree in international relations from Princeton University. He is the recipient of a Presidential Meritorious Service Award. He speaks Hebrew and Serbo-Croatian," according to Jones' official biography.
