Joe Biden: This will not be Barack Obama's third term

(Patria) – In his first media interview since his electoral success, Joe Biden stated that his presidency will not be 'Obama's third term' because the challenges facing his administration are unique.

In an interview with Lester Holt of NBC on Tuesday evening, Biden emphasized that we are now 'facing a completely different world than when Obama was president,' and that 'President Trump has changed that picture.'

The interview followed Biden's announcement of new members of his cabinet, many of whom are from the former Obama administration.

Biden stressed that his administration will be representative of 'the entire spectrum of the American people, as well as the spectrum of the Democratic Party,' and that he would even appoint Republicans who voted for Trump.

– I want this country to be united, the new US president emphasized.  

In the interview with NBC, Biden also stated that he does not intend to use the Department of Justice to investigate Trump and his allies, despite pressure from some Democrats to investigate the president's financial dealings and allegations of foreign interference in previous elections.

Instead, Biden intends to pursue a 'progressive' agenda.

He told Holt that his team is currently focused on coordinating the transition, and that the Trump administration has behaved 'honorably.'

– I already have the presidential daily briefing available; we are already meeting with the White House Covid team, the new president revealed on the TV show.

Biden will address the nation on Thanksgiving on Wednesday, focusing on 'the shared sacrifice Americans are making this holiday season,' and will convey that the current crisis can be overcome together.

The new US president announced his vision for America during a press conference in Wilmington, Delaware, as a country 'ready to lead the world, rather than withdraw from it.'
