Chilling stories from witnesses of the terrorist attack: People's bodies were flying

A truck full of weapons and explosives ploughed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in the French city of Nice around midnight. It killed 80 and injured at least 150 people, world media report, according to the Patria news agency. 

Witnesses recounted horrifying details of the attack and the scenes in Nice after the driver's bloody rampage. 

- In a split second, a huge white truck flew in at an incredible speed, turning its wheels to hit and kill as many people as possible. Bodies were flying like bowling pins, I heard screams, crying that I will never forget, said Damien Allemand, a journalist for the local newspaper Nice Matin.

- I heard screaming and shouting. I went out onto the hotel balcony and could see bodies lying on the road. The police covered them with sheets, said a British tourist who was staying at a hotel near the promenade where the attack occurred.

- The whole city was running. I was terrified and just started running. Chaos was everywhere, said an American tourist.

- It was terrifying, especially because at the moment of the attack we didn't know what was actually happening. We heard gunshots and could only assume that some people were shooting. At one point we were all running, and people from the other direction were running towards us. Some were so confused and in shock that they remained sitting on the road, a female witness recounts.
