Are courts more cautious: Detention for Adis Š. due to domestic violence

(Patria) - At the proposal of the HNK Mostar Prosecutor's Office, by the decision of the Municipal Court in Mostar dated
08/17/2023, detention for a maximum of 1 (one) month has been ordered for the suspect Adis Š. (1972), from Mostar, due to the existence of a well-founded suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of Domestic Violence from Article 222, Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Suspect Adis Š. is accused of entering the house on 08/15/2023, around 01:15 AM, in Mostar, in the Prigrađani settlement, while intoxicated, which he has been using for a long time with his common-law partner S. K., and while the victim was sleeping in the living room, shouting at her, and starting to bang and break things and objects around the house, and pouring water on the victim, then hitting her with his right fist in the left side of the head, continuing to shout and insult her, and when the victim moved to the bedroom, he followed her, and physically attacked her again, hitting her with his fist in the head, during which time the victim was crying and begging him not to hit her.

The Municipal Court in Mostar assessed that the detention of the suspect Adis Š. is fully founded and justified, for the reason that special circumstances justify the fear that he will repeat the criminal offense or commit a criminal offense he threatens, and for which a prison sentence of 3 (three) years or a heavier sentence can be imposed.

Suspect Adis Š. is a repeat offender of this type of criminal offense, and he has served a prison sentence for the same criminal offense. The HNK Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with the Mostar Police Department, continues to undertake investigative actions in this case in order to establish all the facts and circumstances under which this criminal offense was committed.

We remind you that the murderer Nermin Sulejmanović was not subjected to any restraining orders, after he committed violence against Nizama Hećimović, who was later murdered. Since the tragedy in Gradačac, the issue of violence has been in the public focus.
