Dragan Čović, president of the HDZ BiH, announced that he will propose Jelka Miličević as the future Minister of Finance in the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Patria news agency.
It has been known earlier that Bakir Izetbegović, deputy president of the SDA, and Željko Komšić, leader of the DF, will also have to give their „blessing“ for her appointment. However, after yesterday's session of the Presidency of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Izetbegović commented on the choice of the future Minister of Finance.
- I have never heard of Jelka Miličević - he said briefly.
But unlike Izetbegović, Čović knows Miličević very well. She is a graduate economist and currently serves as a member of the Management Board of the Banking Agency of BiH.
According to available data, Miličević was previously a member of the Commission for the Assessment of Assets of the company "Soko". And, it is known from the testimony of Kemal Čeušević, former director of the UIO, that through the sale of real estate of the company Soko, Čović committed million-dollar crimes, i.e., damaged the state budget.
That Čović has debts to Miličević is indicated by another piece of data. Namely, in 2006, she mortgaged her property for bail so that Čović could be released from prison.
At that time, the then President of the Federation of BiH, Niko Lozančić, and eleven other ministers or high officials of BiH mortgaged their property as a guarantee for the release of Dragan Čović.
Those who did so included the then Federal Minister of Justice and Vice President of HDZ BiH, Borjana Krišto, then the then first man of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Miroslav Ćorić, Mostar entrepreneur Dinko Slezak, former Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mila Gadžić, member of the Central Committee of HDZ Vlado Čuljak, former deputy federal auditor Brana Kolobarić, and member of the Commission for the Assessment of Assets of the company Soko, Jelka Miličević.
Dragan Čović was convicted, and later acquitted of charges of abuse of position and authority, corruption, and other similar criminal offenses during his time as Minister of Finance of the Federation of BiH.
