(Patria) - New research on car colors that most often participate in traffic accidents has revealed that owners of brown cars are most at risk of an accident.
According to a statement from the vehicle data company "Car Vertical", which conducted the research, the study is based on millions of car reports generated by users this year.
The statement indicates that although drivers of brown cars prefer reliability, luxury, and comfort, this does not protect them from participating in traffic accidents, so out of all vehicles on the road, brown vehicles are the most frequently damaged (51 percent).
Drivers who choose yellow cars want to be the center of attention, and being full of energy, they might press the gas pedal too hard - 50.6 percent of all yellow vehicles checked on "Car Vertical" have recorded damage histories, while red is just behind at 49.8 percent.
The statement further states that yellow and red are often used on sports cars, indicating that owners of these cars enjoy speed and risk.
Desire to Stand Out
Car expert at "Car Vertical" Matas Buzelis explained that there is no direct relationship between car color and damage rate.
"There is no direct relationship between car color and historical damage rate or average engine power. We can assume that all these cars with the highest historical accident rates are often chosen by drivers who want to stand out from the crowd. Perhaps they can take a little more risk in everyday driving," Buzelis stated.
Drivers with light-colored cars are often perceived as eccentric; however, bright colors are also considered safer, as such cars are more visible in bad weather conditions or low light, the statement reads.
White cars stand out against their surroundings, making it easier for pedestrians and other drivers to notice them, while it is a completely different situation with gray or black vehicles, which can be difficult to spot on a rainy day.
Lighter colored cars are also more easily spotted at night, thus improving the safety of their owners, and although orange is not the most common color on the used car market, car experts consider it a good choice for those who want to be noticed on the road.
According to "Car Vertical" research, gray (44.7 percent) and white (44.5 percent) are the safest colors, meaning accidents happen to them less frequently.
As stated in the announcement, although accident statistics depend on many factors, such as road conditions and traffic density, choosing certain colors can help drivers stay safer, reports RTCG.
