New Year's Eve public celebration again at the Eternal Flame, world stars demanded multi-million sums for performances

(Patria) - The Sarajevo City Administration led by Mayor Benjamina Karić has announced performances by four Sarajevo bands at the public New Year's Eve celebration. The location should remain the same, i.e. Marshal Tito Street (Eternal Flame), but this year special attention will be paid to the sound system to avoid a repeat of last year's fiasco. Part of the money was returned to the City Administration due to poor sound.

Next year, Sarajevo marks a significant anniversary, 40 years since the Winter Olympic Games, for which Sarajevo is still known worldwide, and the mascot Vučko, even after so many years, remains one of the recognizable symbols of Sarajevo.

On New Year's Eve, the citizens of Sarajevo, as well as numerous tourists who traditionally stay in Sarajevo during the holidays, will be entertained by "Zabranjeno pušenje", "Crvena jabuka", "Bombaj štampa" and "Letu štuke".

This announcement by Mayor Karić has also drawn both praise and criticism. While some believe that local bands are a good choice, others think that Sarajevo deserves a concert by a world star. There were also those who believe that a public celebration should not have been organized.
As Patria learns, the City Administration contacted some world stars, but the fees involved were multi-million sums that the City Administration could not accept.

Part of the funds for the public New Year's Eve celebration will also be provided by the Tourist Board of the Sarajevo Canton, and the City Administration has issued a public call for sponsorship of the 2024 public celebration.
