Janjić: There is no one to extinguish the fire in Kosovo, Vučić is settling scores with his own, drug cartels are also involved

(Patria) - Political analyst Dušan Janjić stated today that there is currently no 'firefighter' who could prevent the escalation of conflicts in Kosovo.

Janjić told the Beta agency that it is impossible to predict what will happen in the coming period and that he does not expect the situation to calm down before spring.

"Only someone who is politically, medially, financially, and militarily powerful, namely the Quint members led by the United States and NATO, can prevent the escalation of conflicts in Kosovo. This situation cannot be resolved by agreement, but must be cut short. When that will happen is difficult to predict," said Janjić.

According to him, the situation in Kosovo will not normalize before March next year, when the start of talks on a final agreement between Belgrade and Pristina is expected.

"The time for cutting short the escalation of the conflict has passed. KFOR should take the initiative in northern Kosovo and prevent any possible attempt by the Kosovo police to remove the barricades," said Janjić.

Janjić believes that Belgrade will not receive an answer before the new year to its request to send 1,000 soldiers to Kosovo under UN Security Council Resolution 1244.

"The authorities in Belgrade know that KFOR's answer will be 'no'. Vučić desires such an answer so that he can silence the radical part of his party, as well as right-wing parties like NADA or Nebojša Čović, as well as the losers from 1999, who are now all together Vučić's biggest political problem. Therefore, KFOR will condition Vučić: 'If you want us to ban the arrival of soldiers from Serbia, you will have to remove the barricades'," assessed Janjić.

He emphasized that armed Serbs in Kosovo are already showing signs of 'slipping' from Aleksandar Vučić's control.

"There has been a political disagreement between the president and vice-president of the Serb List, Goran Rakić and Milan Radoičić, for a long time regarding how far to go in radicalizing the protests. Most of the Serb List officials, like Rakić, are not at the barricades, which is indicative," emphasized Janjić.

When asked by Beta about the current danger of armed conflicts, Janjić said that he does not rule out the possibility of small-scale armed conflicts.

"It is possible that armed people will occupy some facilities. Kosovo is just a spark that could ignite a fire in Montenegro and central Serbia. It is very dangerous that the interests of drug cartels are also represented in this situation," assessed Dušan Janjić.
