(Patria) - Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Friday that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is a "short pause", after which Israel will continue to operate with full military force, Reuters reported.
Gallant told this to his Italian counterpart who was visiting Tel Aviv, his office announced.
"There will be a short pause and then we will continue to operate with full military force. We will not stop until we achieve our goals: the destruction of Hamas and the return of hostages from Gaza to Israel – there are 240 hostages and this is something we cannot accept and cannot tolerate," Gallant said.
Israel and Hamas began a four-day ceasefire on Friday.
The ceasefire began at 7 AM and includes a comprehensive ceasefire in northern and southern Gaza, and is expected to be followed by the release of some hostages taken by Hamas during the attack on Israel on October 7 and the release of a certain number of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
