Israeli Defense Minister Threatens Lebanon: What We Do in Gaza, We Can Do in Beirut

(Patria) - Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant today warned the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah not to escalate conflicts along the border, stating that Israel "can do in Beirut what it is doing in Gaza".

- Hezbollah is dragging Lebanon into a war that may happen - Gallant told soldiers in a video broadcast by Israeli television channels, Reuters reports.

Gallant believes that Hezbollah is making mistakes, "and those who will pay the price are primarily the citizens of Lebanon."

- What we are doing in Gaza, we can do in Beirut - Gallant added.

Nasrallah: Hezbollah Hit New Targets in Israel

The leader of Lebanese Hezbollah earlier today called on the leaders of the Islamic-Arab summit to lift the siege of Gaza.

He revealed that he used new types of weapons and hit new targets in Israel, and promised that the southern front against the sworn enemy will remain active.

This was the second speech Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah has given since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7.

In his first address earlier this month, he said there was a possibility that the fighting on the Lebanese front could escalate into a full-blown war.

Nasrallah called on the nations gathered today at an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to lift the siege of Gaza, dpa agency reports.

- The Palestinians have had their say, and they are not asking the Arab-Islamic summit to send them weapons. They only want the Arab and Islamic world to stand behind them united, against the Americans, and to demand an end to this aggression - Nasrallah said at a solemn commemoration for the victims in Beirut.

- Can't 57 Arab and Muslim countries open the Rafah border crossing (on the Gaza-Egypt border)? - he asked.

Nasrallah spoke about the joint summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh, which is discussing ways to end the war in Gaza.

Hezbollah has been exchanging fire with Israeli forces on the Lebanese-Israeli front since October 8, and 70 of their fighters have been killed since then. Several civilians have also been killed, Reuters writes.

Nasrallah said in a televised address today that there has been a "quantitative improvement in the number of (Hezbollah's) operations, the size and number of targets, as well as an increase in the types of weapons".

- Hezbollah used missiles known as Burkan - he said, adding that they are filled with 300 to 500 kilograms of explosives, and confirmed that the group used drones for the first time.

Nasrallah pointed out that the group also hit the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona for the first time in retaliation for the killing of three young girls and their grandmother earlier this month.

- That front will remain active - Nasrallah stated.
