(Patria) - Israel will never withdraw all its troops from the Gaza Strip, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated today.
- Israel will never fully withdraw from Gaza. There will be a significant security zone within the strip, Katz said at a conference organized by the Makor Rishon newspaper, which supports settlers.
He added that this would remain the case even if a transition to the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan and the disarmament of Hamas occurred.
The security zone would extend within Gaza, and Israeli settlement cores could be established in the northern part of the coastal strip to protect the security zone.
Katz, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party, thus contradicted elements of Trump's peace plan, which envisages the gradual withdrawal of all Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
Although Katz seemed to retract similar statements made on Tuesday after criticism, he said at the conference on Thursday: "I only reverse in a car."
