(Patria) - In an Israeli attack, the international airport in the city of Aleppo in northern Syria was hit early Monday, damaging the runway and rendering it out of service, Syrian state media reported.
The state news agency SANA, citing a military official, reported that Israeli planes coming from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea carried out the attack around 4:30 AM, and that there were no casualties, AP reported.
The airport has been targeted multiple times this year, including two attacks in March that also rendered it unusable. Israeli officials did not immediately comment on the allegations.
Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on targets in government-controlled Syria in recent years, including attacks on airports in Damascus and Aleppo, but rarely acknowledges or discusses these operations.
The attacks are often aimed at Syrian military forces or groups supported by Iran. Israel claims that Iran, through Syria, supplies not only the authorities in Damascus but also the Lebanese Hezbollah.
