Israel Reaches Agreement to Allow Delivery of Medicines to Hostages in Gaza

(Patria) - Israel has reached an arrangement with Qatar that will allow the delivery of medicines to hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, the office of the Israeli Prime Minister announced on Friday, Reuters reported.

The medicines will be given to the hostages "in the coming days," the office's statement said.

More than 100 hostages remain in Gaza following Hamas's October 7 attack on southern Israel.

In an agreement mediated by Qatar and the United States, which facilitated a brief ceasefire in November, Hamas released nearly half of the hostages in exchange for the release of dozens of Palestinian prisoners by Israel, as well as an increase in humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza.

The families of the hostages, many of whom are elderly and have chronic illnesses requiring daily medication, petitioned the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit their relatives to deliver medicines and assess their condition.

The Red Cross said Hamas had refused them access.
