Israeli warplanes carried out their most intense attacks on southern Lebanon on Thursday evening in nearly a year of war, escalating the conflict between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah amid strong calls for restraint.
The White House stated that a diplomatic solution is achievable and urgent, and Britain called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The US is "scared and concerned about potential escalation," White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said at a briefing.

Israel claims its fighter jets hit over 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers and other locations, including an arms depot in southern Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the launchers were ready to fire at Israel.
In a late operation held on Thursday, Israeli aircraft hit hundreds of multiple rocket launchers in southern Lebanon during two hours, which were supposed to be fired at Israel immediately.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that Israel carried out at least 52 attacks in the south of the country on Thursday evening, and that Lebanon also launched strikes on military locations in northern Israel.
Earlier, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said that the deadly explosions earlier this week "crossed all red lines," accusing Israel of what he said constituted a declaration of war.
