(Patria) - The Israeli army has issued mobilization orders for several thousand reservists in order to expand attacks on the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported citing Israeli media.
The reservists are reportedly expected to be deployed on the Israeli border with Lebanon and in the occupied West Bank, in order to replace regular soldiers who will lead a new offensive on Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday postponed a planned visit to Azerbaijan.
Earlier, the Israeli war cabinet approved plans for an expanded operation in the Gaza Strip, following statements by Netanyahu and the commander of the Israeli army who hinted that they intend to intensify the campaign in Gaza.
Since the collapse of the ceasefire agreement in March, Israeli troops have been creating wide buffer zones in Gaza, pushing the 2.3 million residents of the occupied Palestinian enclave into an increasingly narrow area in the center of the Gaza Strip and along the coast, while simultaneously maintaining a blockade on the entry of trucks carrying humanitarian aid.
