(Patria) - Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz promised on Monday to continue the Israeli military campaign in Lebanon, despite Iran's warning that any such action would prompt the Islamic Republic to take "harsh" measures in response, AFP reported.
"The IDF will continue to operate in Lebanon against the terrorist organization Hezbollah," Katz said in a statement, adding that Israel would strike the southern suburbs of Beirut, known as the Dahiyeh district, in retaliation for any attack on northern Israel.
"We categorically reject Iranian threats. Any Iranian attempt to link Lebanon and Iran and attack Israel will be met with great force, as happened yesterday," Katz said.
Iran earlier on Monday announced it was halting its latest attacks on Israel, but added that "if acts of aggression and hostility continue, including in southern Lebanon, much harsher and more devastating measures than before will follow."
