(Patria) - The Israeli army today, after the deadline for the start of the ceasefire in Gaza expired, targeted sites in the northern and southern parts of the Palestinian enclave.
Eight people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza in the first hour that the ceasefire was supposed to be in effect, according to the spokesperson for the civil defense agency in Gaza, run by Hamas. Numerous Palestinians headed towards Gaza thinking a ceasefire had been established.
Five were killed in Gaza City, says Mahmoud Basal, and three in the north. Another 25 were injured.
Video footage from Rafah in the south of the strip showed people already on the move, but the Israeli army warned civilians not to approach the buffer zones it had established, nor any Israeli military personnel or infrastructure.
Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari said that the Israeli army's attacks will continue until Hamas fulfills its obligations.
