Israel attacked three Yemeni ports and a power plant

(Patria) - Israel attacked Houthi targets in three Yemeni ports and a power plant, the Israeli army announced early Monday, marking the first Israeli attack on Yemen in nearly a month, Reuters reported.

The attacks on the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif, and the Ras Qantib power plant, were a response to repeated Houthi attacks on Israel, the army added. Israel also attacked the Galaxy Leader ship in the port of Ras Isa, which the Houthis seized at the end of 2023.

"The forces of the Houthi terrorist regime have installed a radar system on the ship and are using it to monitor vessels in international maritime space, in order to promote the activities of the Houthi terrorist regime," the army stated.

Al-Masirah television, close to the Houthis, reported that Israel launched a series of attacks on Hodeidah, shortly after the Israeli army issued an evacuation warning for people in three Yemeni ports.

The attack occurred several hours after a ship was attacked near the port city of Hodeidah on the Red Sea, and the ship's crew abandoned it as it entered the water.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the security firm Ambrey stated that the vessel matched the typical profile of a Houthi target.

Since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis, who are allied with Iran, have fired at Israel and at ships in the Red Sea, in what they call acts of solidarity with the Palestinians.
