Israel attacks Lebanon, buildings burning, several people killed

(Patria) - Israel launched "an extensive wave of attacks" on Lebanon after a woman was killed and several people were injured in a rocket attack on northern Israel. Lebanese media reported that cities were hit and buildings were burning.

"One person was killed and eight were injured in a rocket attack on the northern Israeli city of Safed," said the director of Israel's main emergency response organization. Eli Bin, CEO of Magen David Adom (MDA), told Israel's Channel 12 that the body of a woman was found during a search of a building that was hit.

Hezbollah, believed to have carried out the attack on Israel, has not claimed responsibility. The two sides have regularly exchanged fire across Israel's northern border since the Hamas attacks on October 7. "Fighter jets have begun an extensive wave of attacks on Lebanese territory," wrote Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari on X (formerly Twitter).

Hagari said the IDF would release more details about its latest airstrikes in the coming hours. The attack from Lebanon on northern Israel hit the Safed area and was aimed at the northern command center of the Israeli army, the IDF said.

The IDF subsequently released more details of the attack. "IDF fighter jets attacked a number of Hezbollah terrorist targets in the areas of Jabal el Braij, Houneh, Dunin, Aadchit, and Souaneh. Among the targets hit were military complexes, operational control rooms, and terrorist infrastructure used by Hezbollah terrorists. Several targets belonged to the Radwan forces," the statement said.

Four people were killed and about ten injured in the attacks, two Lebanese security sources said. In an attack on the village of Al-Savanah, a woman and her two children were killed, sources said, adding that eleven people were injured in southern Lebanon and material damage was immense.

Hezbollah announced that one of its fighters was killed in an attack on another city. A Hezbollah representative said that today's Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory "cannot go unanswered."

Ilana Stein, a spokesperson for the Israeli government, confirmed the information about the attacks from Lebanon to reporters.

"We have always made it clear that Israel is not interested in a war on two fronts, but if we are provoked, we will respond fiercely," she said.

"The current situation, with the large number of displaced Israelis who cannot return to their homes, is unbearable. They must be able to return home and live in peace and security."

Footage from Lebanon shows a series of Israeli airstrikes in several towns in the south of the country, deeper inland than most previous attacks. Among the towns hit were Adchit, Chehabiyah, Bouslaiya, Kfar Dunin, and Souneh.
