(Patria) - "Israel attacked near the presidential palace in Damascus last night. This is a clear message to the Syrian regime. We will not allow the withdrawal of forces from southern Damascus and any danger to the Druze community", stated the Office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Early this morning, air raid sirens sounded in Israeli cities. Ballistic missiles were launched from Yemen.
According to the latest reports, missiles were fired towards Galilee.
Meanwhile, Israeli firefighters have been battling fires around Jerusalem for a second day on Thursday.
Crews are working at 11 separate locations, the Fire and Rescue Authority announced, adding that at least 17 firefighters have been injured and require medical attention, reported dpa.
Large areas of land near Jerusalem have burned, with fields and forests around the city scorched.
163 firefighting teams and 12 aircraft are involved in extinguishing the fires, which have engulfed about 13,000 hectares of forest. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a state of emergency, fearing the fire could reach Jerusalem itself. Times of Israel writes that 18 people suspected of arson have been detained, one of whom was caught in the act.
