Israel bombed Hezbollah targets in Syria this morning

(Patria) - The Israeli army (IDF) announced this morning that it carried out bombings of Lebanese group Hezbollah positions in Syria in an attempt to thwart its "entrenchment" in that country, AFP reported.

While fighting Hamas in Gaza, Israel has repeatedly stated that it is prepared to confront Hezbollah and has intensified attacks, including in Syria, in recent weeks.
The statement said the army "attacked military infrastructure used by the terrorist organization Hezbollah on the Syrian front, based on precise intelligence data".

The army stated that it "holds the Syrian regime responsible for all activities taking place on its territory and will not allow any attempts at actions that could lead to Hezbollah's entrenchment on the Syrian front".

"In parallel, in the past hours, the (Israeli army) attacked numerous Hezbollah observation posts and terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon," the statement added.

"Throughout the day, IDF artillery attacked to eliminate threats in the Dhayra and Tayr Harfa areas in southern Lebanon."

On Tuesday, Israel announced that its warplanes hit a Syrian army position in response to rocket fire from southern Syria towards the Golan Heights, annexed by Israel.
The Israeli army has carried out hundreds of attacks inside Syria since the beginning of the war in the country in 2011, particularly targeting pro-Iranian targets. On April 1st, an Israeli attack on the consular building of the Iranian embassy in Damascus killed sixteen people, including seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Israel has not commented on that attack.
