Israel Agrees on Ceasefire with Hezbollah

(Patria) - The Israeli government will officially vote on a ceasefire with Lebanese Hezbollah, with whom it has been at war for over a year, at a meeting of its inner cabinet this evening.

This was confirmed this evening by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an address to the public.

He said that this is not the end of the war, adding that there will be no end to the war as long as all Israelis displaced due to Hezbollah's rocket attacks over the past year do not return to their homes in the north of the country.

Netanyahu also added that Israel will now focus on the threat posed by Iran, but will increase pressure on Hamas, which invaded Israel on October 7 last year, massacred residents, and abducted more than 200 Israelis, taking them to Gaza.

Netanyahu began his speech by addressing the displaced residents of northern Israel, saying he was proud of their perseverance and resilience.

He said that "thanks to the bravery of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), great successes have been achieved," and asserted that the IDF's actions reflect Israel's power in the Middle East.

"In Lebanon, Hezbollah is no longer the same," Netanyahu said, adding that the Israeli army has killed more commanders and the former leader of Hezbollah.

Israel has also destroyed Hezbollah's infrastructure and "attacked key targets," he added.

He also says he is "looking at all seven fronts" and the "broader, bigger picture" and is "determined to bring victory to Israel."

Netanyahu announced that his cabinet will approve a ceasefire agreement to end the fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

According to the agreement, he says, any attempt by Hezbollah to rearm will be a violation of the agreement, and Israel will "respond sharply" if it does so.

"The duration of the ceasefire depends on what happens in Lebanon," said the Israeli prime minister.

He added that Israel will attack again if Hezbollah violates the agreement.

"This agreement can be implemented, and we will do it," Netanyahu concluded.

While awaiting the declaration of a ceasefire, residents of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, took to the streets this evening.

The Israeli army, in fact, issued new warnings of an attack on Beirut, amid announcements of a possible imminent declaration of a ceasefire following a proposal supported by the US.

In a statement on social media, IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that branches of Hezbollah's financial institution, which has branches in many areas of Beirut, will also be targeted.

Following this statement, numerous residents of Beirut left their homes out of concern that Israel would launch airstrikes across the capital.

People in Beirut took to the streets and headed towards areas they believe to be safer.

Traffic in many parts of the city is difficult due to congestion, with many people leaving areas considered potential targets on foot.
