Israel bombed Lebanon and Syria

(Patria) - Lebanese state media reported that at least two people were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the east of the country on Tuesday, where Israel had previously targeted Hezbollah militants, AFP reported last night. Reuters reported that Israel also attacked targets in Syria.

"An enemy drone carried out an airstrike on the town of Shaara near the eastern Lebanese mountain range, killing two people and wounding two," the Lebanese state National News Agency announced.

The Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah and Israel waged a war last year that ended in a ceasefire at the end of November, which has largely held despite mutual accusations of violations.

Israeli warplanes targeted a town south of the Syrian capital, as well as the southern province of Daraa on Tuesday evening, residents, security sources and local television Syria said.

Israeli strikes were carried out on the town of Kisweh approximately 20 kilometers south of Damascus, Syrian security sources reported. A security source said a military site was targeted, without providing details.

Additional Israeli airstrikes hit a town in the southern province of Daraa.

The bombing followed hours after Syria condemned Israel's incursion into the south of the country and demanded its withdrawal. Israel sent forces into a United Nations-monitored demilitarized zone in Syria after rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a former Al Qaeda affiliate, overthrew former President Bashar al-Assad in December.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Sunday that Israel would not tolerate the presence of HTS in southern Syria, nor any other forces associated with the country's new rulers, and demanded the demilitarization of the territory.
