Lack of reaction from authorities led to tragedy: Peaceful protests by parents of Aleksa Šantić Elementary School tonight

SARAJevo, (Patria) - A boy (born 2010) who was hit by a truck near "Aleksa Šantić" Elementary School last night, died at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS) from his injuries.

The driver has been arrested and is undergoing criminal processing at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton. An investigation, led by the duty prosecutor, was also completed last night.

Protests by parents of students attending "Aleksa Šantić" Elementary School will be held tonight at 6 PM at the scene of the accident. For years, they have been warning about the inadequate access to the school, which is narrow and lacks sidewalks, and is used by motor vehicles. Furthermore, the lighting in this street is poor, and visibility is very low!

Parents will once again submit a series of demands to the relevant institutions to find a solution and ensure safe access to the school. The parents' fight for the safety of children on their way to school has been ongoing for years, and all they have managed to achieve so far is the installation of a ramp at the very entrance to the school, but an agreement to ban motor vehicles from the street leading to the school has never been reached.

The boy was injured during the end of classes, so many children witnessed this tragedy and are in shock.

If the parents' demands are not met, a boycott of classes is possible, as parents no longer want to endanger their children's lives by sending them to school. Aleksa Šantić Elementary School is the largest in the canton, but the authorities have never shown willingness to meet the demands.
