LAW AMENDMENTS Special Departments of the Prosecutor's Office and the Supreme Court of FBiH to deal only with the most complex corruption and crime cases

(Patria) - The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized a special meeting of representatives of the judicial and executive authorities at the level of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) to discuss the work and functioning of the Special Department of the Supreme Court of FBiH for corruption, organized and inter-cantonal crime.

The meeting, which focused on ensuring the full functionality of the Special Department, was attended by the Prime Minister of FBiH Nermin Nikšić, the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister of the FBiH Government Toni Kraljević, the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Justice Vedran Škobić, the President of the HJPC BiH Sanin Bogunić, the Vice-Presidents of the HJPC BiH Sanela Gorušanović Butigan and Velimir Ninković, the permanent member of the Presidency of the HJPC BiH Sedin Idrizović, the Director of the Secretariat of the HJPC BiH Ivana Zovko Planinić, the Head of the Cabinet of the President Demirel Delić, and the Acting President of the Supreme Court of FBiH Božidarka Dugonjić.

The FBiH Government expressed its readiness to provide all special funds for the unimpeded work of the Special Department, which directly means ensuring the right to a fair trial, which is why all attendees agreed that each competent institution, within its legally established jurisdiction, will take measures to find an adequate and sustainable solution.

Amendments to the Law on Combating Corruption and Organized Crime in FBiH were also discussed, particularly the part related to the jurisdiction of the Special Department of the Court, in order to more narrowly define the jurisdiction that will ensure that the Special Department deals exclusively with the most complex forms of organized crime and corruption cases.

The Special Department for Combating Corruption, Organized and Inter-Cantonal Crime of the Supreme Court of FBiH was established in May 2025 with the aim of more efficiently processing the most complex cases of corruption, organized crime, financial crime, as well as other corrupt criminal offenses that pose a serious threat to legal certainty and the rule of law, and undermine the stability of society.
