With the "Museum Day" event, on February 1st, the National Museum of BiH marked 128 years of its existence. On that day, a large number of interested individuals had the opportunity to visit the Museum for free, see the original Sarajevo Haggadah, learn more about museum jobs and activities that enable the museum's functioning, watch documentaries made in different periods of the Museum's operation, and purchase numerous museum publications and souvenirs, it was announced from the National Museum of BiH, reports the Patria News Agency.
As part of the event, the archaeological exhibition "About Kuros, About Kore, About People and Deities" by prof. dr. Adnan Busuladžić was opened, featuring items from a private collection that was presented to the domestic and international public for the first time on this solemn occasion.
In the period from February 1st to 10th, 2016, during which this extremely interesting and valuable exhibition, composed of glass vessels, metal sculptures, and ceramic figurines from the Greco-Roman civilizational cultural circle, was available to the public, the National Museum of BiH was visited by around 5,000 visitors, which is an exceptional number that justified all the efforts invested in organizing the "Museum Day" event. The large turnout and very positive reactions from citizens truly bring joy and oblige us to try to make the celebration of the National Museum of BiH's birthday a tradition.
"We take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our visitors, without whose support and response, similar actions would not have much meaning. Also, we take this opportunity to thank Mr. Adil Osmanović, Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, and Vahid Ćosić, Police Commissioner and General Inspector of the Sarajevo Canton Police, whose engagement created the prerequisites for the "Museum Day" event to be held at all. We owe special thanks to the members of the 1st Police Administration, the Center Police Station, as well as the agencies Unilab security and DSC, who all together invested great efforts in the 24-hour, additional, external, and internal security of the Museum, and thus provided additional safety for our exhibits, as well as our visitors," stated the acting director of the National Museum of BiH, dr. Mirsad Sijarić, on this occasion.
The National Museum of BiH is preparing several new and diverse exhibitions and additional program content aimed at enriching the museum's offerings.
