Exhibition "Old Sarajevo Bazaar 1949" at the City Hall

In cooperation with the City of Sarajevo, the Public Institution Museum of Sarajevo will host the exhibition "Old Sarajevo Bazaar 1949", which will be opened by the Mayor of Sarajevo Prof. Dr. Ivo Komšić and the Director of the Museum of Sarajevo Amra Madžarević, reports the Patria News Agency.

The exhibition consists of interesting and valuable drawings and prints by renowned Bosnian-Herzegovinian artists from a time when they were not yet famous (from the collection of the Art Collection of the Museum of Sarajevo). In 1949, the Commission for Culture and Art of the City of Sarajevo purchased a collection of works on the theme "Old Sarajevo Bazaar" from young artists (then students of the School of Applied Arts and Painting in Sarajevo).

In the same year, the collection was donated to the Museum of the City of Sarajevo. The artists: Affan Ramić, Rajko Sikimić, Pero Bodroža, Jusuf Jusa Nikšić, Mustafa Ico Voljevica, Hela Volfard, Budislav Vlaisavljević – later became famous and recognized painters, academics, sculptors, graphic artists, restorers, and conservators.

The appearance of the bazaar at that time, as depicted in the prints from 1949, sketches the era and its people. The exhibition thus represents a kind of chronicle of a time.

The exhibition will be displayed in the ceremonial hall of the City Hall on Tuesday, August 18, at 7 PM, and will be open until September 18, according to the City Administration.
