G7 Statement: Iran is a source of instability, Israel has the right to defend itself, we expect a ceasefire in Gaza

(Patria) - G7 member states issued a joint statement after their meeting, focusing on de-escalating hostilities in the Middle East.

In the statement signed by the members, it was stated that the countries affirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.

"In this context, we affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for Israel's security. We also affirm the importance of protecting civilians. Iran is a major source of regional instability and terror," the statement said.

They also stated that they have consistently made it clear that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons.

"We call for the resolution of the Iranian crisis to lead to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza. We will remain vigilant regarding the implications for international energy markets and will be prepared to coordinate, including with like-minded partners, to protect market stability," they concluded.

The G7 member countries are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
