Izetbegović on Zukić's Arrest: I Trust the Judiciary and That Everyone Is Innocent Until Proven Otherwise

Bakir Izetbegović, president of the SDA, said in response to a question about the arrest of Amir Zukić, the SDA's secretary general, that he cannot comment on such a matter at this moment, and that in the coming days he will certainly address this event, Patria reports.

- We should trust the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also the principle that everyone is innocent until proven otherwise. That is all for now regarding this event - said Izetbegović.

Incidentally, on January 21, while appearing on Face TV, Izetbegović was asked by Senad Hadžifejzović about stories that some party leadership members, Asim Sarajlić and Amir Zukić, worked for personal interests, mediated in hiring at Elektroprivreda BiH, and became enormously wealthy. Izetbegović said he does not acknowledge speculations.

- It does not mean there are no dishonest people around me, but I am not an investigator. Anyone found to have done anything dishonest will be removed, or I will leave. If I cannot remove a dishonest person, I will no longer be party president. For anyone proven to talk about the common interest while working for themselves, I will remove them. I will accept whatever is proven. I will not act on suspicion - said Izetbegović.

He also added that he asked Sarajlić about his property and that Sarajlić told him he has "a normal apartment and nothing more."

- If it is proven that he committed corruption or theft, he will leave the party. Let prosecutors and judges handle that - said the SDA president.
