Izetbegović: No progress at meetings in Brussels

BRUSSELS, (Patria) - Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina held individual meetings with the leader of the European People's Party regarding the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

There has been no progress at the meetings of the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the President of the European People's Party Joseph Daul in Brussels, said Bakir Izetbegović, a member of the Presidency.

He told Al Jazeera that no new proposals were being discussed, but rather the issue in general. He added that the room for reaching a compromise has narrowed, reports Patria.

Izetbegović said that only combinations for the election of delegates to the House of Peoples are being discussed, with Presidency member Dragan Čović trying to push the issue of electing members of the Presidency.

Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Čović, Bakir Izetbegović, and Mladen Ivanić held individual meetings with the leader of the European People's Party in Brussels.

Implementation of election results questionable

Čović and Ivanić declined to speak to the media after the meeting.

The proposals of the Croats and the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) for amendments to the Election Law were rejected yesterday in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament, and a solution is also being sought through the international community.

Only 11 out of 42 representatives in the House of Representatives voted for the amendments proposed by the HDZ BiH.

The opposing proposal from the Party of Democratic Action also did not receive support, returning the resolution of the burning issue of changes to the election legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to square one.
