Izetbegović and Nikšić on MAP activation: BiH's NATO path will not be stopped

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A meeting of NATO member state foreign ministers will be held in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday, where BiH will be offered an Action Plan for NATO membership (MAP). This is the first step in the process of full membership.

The presidents of SDA and SDP BiH, Bakir Izetbegović and Nermin Nikšić, welcomed the activation of MAP for BiH. Izetbegović said that there can be no blockade on this path.

- Our commitment, the law on the Armed Forces, on defense, has clearly stated the situation regarding our aspirations towards NATO. This was supported at one time by SNSD and Mr. Nebojša Radmanović and Milorad Dodik. These are things that are moving forward. A well-kept secret has leaked, MAP will be activated, the plan will be adopted, and I welcome it. There are some objections, but they will not be able to question this matter in any way – said Izetbegović.

Nikšić said that work has been done on this for a long time, and that the first steps in registering prospective military property were made during the Council of Ministers period from 2010-2014.

- Now I hope that we will overcome all potential obstacles, and it is in the interest of all citizens of BiH and those who, possibly for political points, think that something should be blocked and obstructed, that we will succeed in overcoming these blockades and ensure the full implementation – said Nikšić.
