Parliamentary elections in Montenegro were held today under tensions and marked by the arrest of 20 Serbians who allegedly attempted to carry out a coup in the country and arrest Prime Minister Milo Đukanović, Patria reports.
By 7 p.m., 71.6 percent of voters had cast their ballots, according to CeMI. According to CDT data, by 7 p.m., around 70.9 percent or about 375,190 voters had voted. CDT Executive Director Dragan Koprivica said it is necessary to calm tensions.
There were incidents at several polling stations, and police had to intervene.
Turnout by region by 7 p.m.: Podgorica 75.6 percent, central region without Podgorica 76.9 percent, south 66.2 percent, north 69 percent.
The Ministry of Interior of Montenegro issued an appeal to citizens to wait for the election results at home and not to go out to, possibly, celebrate those results.
