IO BiH: We most strongly condemn the attack on Aladža Mosque

(Patria) - The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina most strongly condemns the attack on Aladža Mosque in Foča which, according to all indications, suggests that an as yet unknown person fired several shots and hit the minaret of this religious and cultural-historical monument. The Riyaset of the Islamic Community demands that the competent authorities conduct a professional investigation, uncover and prosecute the perpetrator.

The Islamic Community also appeals once again to all actors in social processes, and above all to political officials of the Bosnian entity of RS, not to use hate speech and not to spread intolerance towards Muslims and Islam, because such narratives serve as a basis and justification for such attacks.

It was not long ago when Aladža Mosque, like all other Foča mosques, was destroyed, and its congregants expelled or killed, precisely by those who are today glorified by entity institutions and official representatives as heroes and whose ideology is presented and promoted as part of a collective identity and tradition to be proud of. Building peace and trust requires a decisive confrontation with the past and condemnation of crimes and criminals. Otherwise, we risk repeating the same mistakes from history - it is stated in the statement of the IO in BiH.

The morning investigation conducted by investigators of the Public Security Center Foča was attended by the Mufti of Goražde, Remzija-ef. Pitić, along with imams.
