(Patria) - The Iranian Assembly of Experts has elected Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the new supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Iran International reported.
According to the same source, the election was held under pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Mojtaba Khamenei succeeds his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike early Saturday. He is the second eldest son of the former supreme leader.
Iran carried out an attack on the US Consulate in Dubai today. The United States has already withdrawn personnel from Middle Eastern countries. The Embassy in Riyadh and Israel has been closed, and US citizens must arrange their own evacuation.
Explosions were also heard in Tehran and Israel during the day.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the US President today and stated that Germany stands on the same side as the US.
"We are on the same side regarding the removal of this terrible regime in Iran," Merz stated.
Trump noted that Germany allows US forces to land in "certain areas," but that the US is not asking Germany to provide soldiers.
"They allow us to land in certain areas, and we appreciate that. We are not asking them to send their forces," he stated.
Trump assessed that he has a good relationship with Germany, and especially with Merz, calling him an "excellent leader."
