30 Million Dollars Missing from Los Angeles Money Storage Facility

(Patria) - The Los Angeles Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are investigating one of the largest cash heists in the city's history. Namely, 30 million dollars were stolen from a money storage facility in the San Fernando Valley.

The heist occurred on the night before Easter, at a facility in a suburban neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley where cash from businesses across the region is stored, a police source told CNN.

The FBI's Los Angeles office confirmed it is investigating a "major theft" in the San Fernando Valley but did not provide further details, as the investigation is ongoing.

The burglars entered the vault, and the alarm did not trigger. The theft was discovered on Monday.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the city's largest cash heist previously occurred on September 12, 1997, when $18.9 million was stolen from the former Dunbar Armored Inc. location, but those responsible for the heist were arrested.
